Best Web Hosting for Small Business: Namecheap, hosting.com, Hostinger, DreamHost, GreenGeeks

Quick answer

For most small businesses and freelancers with one to three sites, Namecheap Stellar is the cheapest host to keep. It's $2.28 a month billed yearly, and its regular 1-year price is $55.88, the lowest renewal we found[1]. Three years on yearly billing comes to $139.12.

If you're happy to prepay four years, hosting.com Starter is $95.49 up front for a 4-year term[5] and Hostinger Premium is $119.52 for 48 months[3]. Both are cheap, as long as you don't change your mind after the 30-day refund window. Running lots of small sites? DreamHost Launch allows 25 for $34.68 in year one[4].

What separates these hosts is renewal, not the first bill. On the same one-site starter tier, three years runs from $95.49 (hosting.com, prepaid) to $467.64 (SiteGround, which renews at $17.99 a month)[7]. All figures checked Oct 2026. Want the renewal numbers on their own? See our shared hosting renewal price tracker.

This is a researched price guide, not a hands-on review or speed test. We haven't run a business site on these hosts. Every price comes from the host's own US pricing page, and each one is linked and dated. Links marked (paid link) are affiliate links; every other link on this page earns CostOak nothing. This is general information, not advice.

The web hosts compared

Most small business sites don't need much: a handful of pages, a contact form, maybe a booking widget and a business email address. Any shared host on this list can run that. So the useful question isn't "which is fastest?" It's "which one fits what I'm running, and what will I still be paying in year three?"

Hosting has two prices, and the ads lead with the smaller one. You get a low intro rate, but only if you prepay a set term: 12 months at some hosts, 36 or 48 at others. After that you pay the renewal rate, which is usually several times higher.

We compared the entry shared plan at seven hosts that publish their prices: Namecheap, GreenGeeks, Hostinger, DreamHost, hosting.com, Bluehost and SiteGround. The table shows each intro price with the term you have to buy to get it, plus the renewal rate the host prints on its own page.

What you'll pay over 1 and 3 years

Here's what each entry plan costs if you take the advertised deal and renew at the rate the host publishes. "Due at checkout" is what you pay on day one. Every intro deal is paid up front, so the hosts with 36- and 48-month terms want years of hosting paid on day one.

Bar chart of 3-year total cost on entry shared plans: hosting.com Starter $95.49, Namecheap Stellar 2-year billing $101.00, Hostinger Premium $119.52, Namecheap Stellar yearly $139.12, Bluehost Starter $143.64, DreamHost Launch $298.44, GreenGeeks Lite $370.20, SiteGround StartUp $467.64.
What the entry plan costs over three years: intro deal, then the published renewal rate. Calculated from host pricing pages, checked Oct 2026.

How we got the 3-year totals: Namecheap yearly is $27.36 (12 × $2.28), then two years at the $55.88 regular 1-year price. Namecheap 2-year is $45.12 (24 × $1.88), then one year at $55.88[1]. DreamHost is $34.68, then 24 × $10.99[4]. GreenGeeks is $35.40, then 24 × $13.95[2]. SiteGround is $35.88, then 24 × $17.99[7]. Bluehost's 36 months come to $143.64 (36 × $3.99)[6].

The long prepays look unbeatable here, and over three years they are. But you're paying for years you might not use. Most of these hosts refund within 30 days, so if you switch hosts, close the business or rebuild the site in year two, that money is gone. Year five is worth a look too. hosting.com renews at $13.99 a month and Hostinger at $10.99[5][3], while Namecheap's regular yearly price is $55.88, about $4.66 a month. Hosts can change renewal rates, so treat any figure past your first term as today's published rate, not a promise.

If hosting is one line in a bigger software budget, add it to the software-stack cost calculator next to everything else you pay for.

If you need more sites or storage

Several entry plans cap you at one site (GreenGeeks Lite, SiteGround StartUp). If you run a main site plus a landing page, or a site for each part of the business, you'll need the next tier up. Here's that tier at each host, priced the same way.

Our pick at this tier is Namecheap Stellar Plus if you'd rather not lock in, and Hostinger Unlimited or hosting.com Pro if you will. SiteGround GrowBig costs $779.64 over three years, more than four times Hostinger. That gap is a lot to pay for support.

Pricing, host by host

Namecheap: lowest cost to keep

Stellar is $2.28 a month billed yearly, or $1.88 a month billed every 2 years. Billed monthly, it's $5.88. The page's pricing table lists the regular prices as $5.88 for 1 month, $55.88 for 1 year and $102.88 for 2 years. Namecheap's terms say its advertised discount "does not apply to renewals", so we used those regular prices as the renewal rate. Stellar covers 3 websites, 20 GB SSD and 30 mailboxes. Stellar Plus ($2.98 billed yearly, $85.44 regular per year) and Stellar Business ($4.98, $128.88) add unlimited sites[1].

You can start with a 30-day free trial, but that costs you the refund. The 30-day money-back guarantee only covers first-time customers who didn't start on a trial[1]. Pick one. Watch out for: Namecheap shows Stellar as "$2.28/mo billed yearly", which is $27.36 a year, but a comparison box on the same page lists "$26.88/yr". Check the checkout total before you pay. See Namecheap's plans .

hosting.com: cheapest four-year prepay

Starter is $1.99 a month on a 4-year term. You pay $95.49 today and $13.99 a month on renewal. It includes 5 websites, 15 GB NVMe storage, email, daily backups, malware removal, free managed migration and a free domain registration. Pro is $3.79 a month ($181.93 for 4 years, then $19.99), and Max is $7.79 ($373.90, then $27.99)[5].

The page also says "no lock-ins or minimum terms", but it only printed the 4-year price on the plan cards when we checked. We couldn't verify a shorter-term price from the published page, so we haven't listed one. Watch out for: the free domain is free for year one only and then "renews at the standard rate"[5].

Hostinger: cheap per month, long commitment

Premium is $2.49 a month when you take 48 months for $119.52 (the page lists a regular price of $585.12), and it renews at $10.99 a month. You get 3 websites, 20 GB SSD storage, weekly backups, a domain free for 1 year and 2 mailboxes per website free for 1 year. Unlimited is $3.49 a month for 48 months ($167.52) and renews at $16.99[3].

When we checked, these were labelled as a Black Friday offer, so they may change. Hostinger also notes that "all plans are paid upfront"[3]. The plan page showed only the 48-month price; we didn't verify shorter terms. Watch out for: those mailboxes renew at $0.59 a month each after the free year[3].

DreamHost: most sites for a one-year start

Web Hosting Launch is $2.89 a month for the first year on yearly billing, then auto-renews at $10.99 a month. It allows 25 websites, 25 GB NVMe storage, about 40k monthly visits and unmetered bandwidth. DreamHost says every web hosting plan offers monthly billing, but the plan page didn't print a monthly price, so we haven't listed one. It also says the full term plus taxes is charged at checkout[4].

Watch out for: the plan page we checked didn't spell out a money-back period. Confirm the refund terms with DreamHost before you buy.

Bluehost: a fixed three-year budget

Starter is $3.99 a month for a 36-month term and renews at $9.99 a month. It includes 10 websites, 10 GB NVMe storage, "ideal for 40K visits/mo", a free domain for the first year and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Business is $6.99 (renews at $13.99) with 50 websites and 50 GB[6].

The page also had a banner offering up to an extra 25% off. We haven't included it, because it wasn't reflected in the plan prices. Watch out for: the Pro Email free trial auto-renews at $2.50 a month unless you cancel[6].

GreenGeeks: the green option

Lite is $2.95 a month prepaid for 12 months and renews at $13.95 a month. That covers 1 website and 25 GB. Pro is $4.95 (renews at $18.95) and Premium is $8.95 (renews at $30.95), both with unlimited websites. Every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee, a free domain for the first year and free migration. GreenGeeks says it matches its energy use three times over through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation[2].

We earn a commission on GreenGeeks, and we're still telling you it isn't a price pick. Three years on Lite cost $370.20, nearly four times the cheapest prepay. Choose it if green hosting matters to your business or your customers. See GreenGeeks' plans .

SiteGround: support-first, priced like it

StartUp is $2.99 a month, "prepaid for 12 months", and renews at $17.99. It covers 1 website, 10 GB storage and around 10,000 visits a month, with free email, daily backups and a free domain. GrowBig is $4.99 (renews at $29.99) and GoGeek is $7.99 (renews at $44.99)[7].

SiteGround puts its 24/7 in-house support and Google Cloud infrastructure front and center. We haven't tested either. At renewal, you're paying about $216 a year for one site.

Costs the plan price leaves out

Domain renewal. Every host here includes a free domain for the first year. After that you pay the registrar's renewal rate, so budget for it in year two.

Email. It's included at some hosts: SiteGround lists free email, Namecheap Stellar has 30 mailboxes and hosting.com includes email accounts. At others it's free for a while and then billed. Hostinger's mailboxes are free for a year, then $0.59 a month each[3]. Bluehost's Pro Email trial renews at $2.50 a month[6].

Refund windows. A 4-year prepay is only a bargain if you stay. Most of these hosts offer 30 days of refunds. Read the terms before you prepay years.

Add-ons at checkout. Hosts often pre-tick extras such as security, backups or SEO tools. The prices on this page are for the plan alone.

If you need managed or cloud hosting

Shared hosting is fine for brochure sites. If you run a busy WooCommerce store, get traffic spikes or want someone else to handle WordPress updates and performance, managed or cloud hosting costs more but gives you dedicated resources.

Cloudways (Flexible, DigitalOcean, 1 GB server) is $14 a month, shown as $0.0208 an hour. You get 1 vCPU, 25 GB NVMe storage and 1 TB bandwidth. It bills monthly in arrears for actual usage, with no prepay and no intro-versus-renewal gap, and there's a 3-day free trial with no credit card. At that rate, a year is $168 and three years is $504. Business email isn't included: Rackspace mailboxes are $1.50 each a month, and offsite backup storage is $0.033 per GB. Cloudways Autonomous starts at $99 a month[8]. See Cloudways pricing

WP Engine Essential starts at $28 a month billed annually ($336 today). It's managed WordPress with daily backups, 24/7 chat support, 25,000–400,000 visits a month, 10–50 GB storage and 75 GB bandwidth. The page says first-year pricing applies to new Essential customers only, isn't valid for renewals, and "product renewal pricing subject to change". It doesn't publish a renewal price, so we can't give you one, or a 3-year total[9]. See WP Engine plans

How to choose a web host for your business

If you want the lowest cost without a long lock-in, choose Namecheap Stellar . It has the lowest renewal of the group, and three sites and 30 mailboxes cover most small businesses.

If you're sure you'll stay put for years, hosting.com Starter ($95.49 for 4 years) or Hostinger Premium ($119.52 for 48 months) costs the least cash over three years. Only commit if you're confident you'll keep the site where it is.

If you run lots of small sites, DreamHost Launch allows 25 on the entry plan for $34.68 in year one, and Bluehost Starter allows 10 for a fixed 3-year bill of $143.64.

If green hosting is part of your brand, GreenGeeks is the one built around it. Budget for the $13.95 monthly renewal.

If support matters more than price, SiteGround is the premium-support pick. It also costs the most to keep, so set a reminder before it renews.

If you've outgrown shared hosting, Cloudways' $14-a-month server has no renewal surprise. WP Engine handles WordPress for you, but its renewal price isn't published.

Whatever you choose, budget on the renewal price, not the headline. Our methodology explains why we always show both. For more on what renewals do to your bill, see the shared hosting renewal tracker, or browse our other software comparisons.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best web hosting for a small business?

For most one-to-three-site businesses, Namecheap Stellar has the lowest ongoing cost: $2.28 a month billed yearly and a $55.88 regular 1-year price. If you'll prepay 4 years, hosting.com Starter ($95.49) and Hostinger Premium ($119.52) cost the least up front over three years. Prices checked Oct 2026.

How much does web hosting cost for a small business per year?

Entry shared plans cost $27.36–$35.88 in year one on the yearly deals we checked. Renewals then run from $55.88 a year (Namecheap's regular 1-year price) to $17.99 a month (SiteGround). Over three years, the entry plans range from $95.49 to $467.64 (checked Oct 2026).

Is a cheap intro price worth a 3- or 4-year prepay?

Only if you're confident you'll stay. Prepaying gives you the lowest 3-year total, but most hosts here refund only within 30 days, so leaving early means losing the rest. Paying yearly costs more over time but keeps you free to move.

Do I need managed WordPress hosting for a small business site?

Usually not. A brochure site or simple booking site runs fine on shared hosting. Managed or cloud hosting, such as Cloudways from $14 a month or WP Engine from $28 a month billed annually, makes sense for busy stores or when you want someone else to handle updates (checked Oct 2026).

Does web hosting include business email?

On some plans. SiteGround lists free email, Namecheap Stellar includes 30 mailboxes and hosting.com includes email accounts. Hostinger's mailboxes are free for one year, then $0.59 a month each. Cloudways charges $1.50 per Rackspace mailbox a month (checked Oct 2026).
